Fans of the popular television show The Masked Singer are buzzing with speculation about the identity of one of its newest contestants, Goldfish. As the seventh series of the hit ITV program kicks off on January 3, 2024, viewers are eager to uncover the hidden celebrity behind the character, especially after deciphering several intriguing clues.

In a unique twist this season, The Masked Singer introduces not only 12 new masked celebrities but also two additional contestants who will perform alongside their own masked bands. Goldfish leads a group called No Trout, while another character, Emperor Penguin, fronts a band named Antarctic Funkeys. Viewers will get their first glimpse of Goldfish in the opening episode, with both characters aiming to keep their true identities under wraps.

The clues provided by Goldfish have sparked intense discussions among fans. The first clue directed at judge Davina McCall referenced being “top of the Christmas tree,” while a second clue for Jonathan Ross hinted at the common belief that goldfish have a three-second memory. The character also sent a mathematical riddle to Mo Gilligan—”54x4x10-166+8=X”—and asked Maya Jama about becoming an “award-winning billionaire by swimming upstream.”

Fans took to online platforms, particularly Reddit, to analyze these clues. One fan confidently suggested that Goldfish is British pop star Anne-Marie, citing the mathematical clue that resolves to 2002, a year associated with a song on her debut album, Speak Your Mind. Another fan connected the Christmas tree clue to Anne-Marie’s Christmas number-one hit with Clean Bandit, “Rockabye,” in 2016. Additionally, the judging reference aligns with her role as a coach on The Voice UK from 2021 to 2023.

As anticipation builds, ITV is remaining tight-lipped about whether the presence of bands offers further insight into the contestants’ identities. A source from the network stated, “As The Masked Singer heads into series seven in the UK, bosses are keeping everyone on their toes by upping the ante on clues.” They added that the introduction of bands would likely lead to confusion among viewers, who may wonder if these group performances serve as a hint or simply a fun twist.

With the show set to air at 18:30 on ITV1 and ITVX, fans are gearing up for a season filled with surprises and challenging puzzles. As the excitement mounts, it remains to be seen just how far the clues will lead in uncovering the celebrity identities behind the masks.
