Mariah Carey’s bedazzled jacket featuring the phrase “Protect the Dolls” is set to be auctioned to benefit LGBTQ+ causes. The iconic piece, worn by Carey during her performance at Brighton Pride earlier this year, is expected to attract international bidders when it goes live on December 8, 2025.

Details of the Auction

The auction, announced on December 3 by GLAAD, the world’s largest LGBTQ media advocacy organization, will commence at 3 PM Eastern Time (12 PM Pacific Time, 8 PM UK Time). Bidding will start at just $0.99 (£0.74) and will continue for one week, concluding on December 15, 2025, just in time for the holiday season. 100% of the proceeds will support GLAAD’s Transgender Media Program, which aims to elevate trans voices and stories within the media.

During her electrifying performance, Carey donned the lush pink bomber jacket over a glittering dress in the colors of the trans flag. The phrase “Protect the Dolls” is particularly significant, as it resonates within the trans community, affirming femininity and drawing from the ballroom culture of the 1980s.

Supporting Trans Rights

The “Protect the Dolls” design was first showcased in February at Conner Ives’ Fall 2025 runway show during London Fashion Week. This collection emerged in response to increasing anti-trans rhetoric and political challenges facing the transgender community globally. Due to popular demand, Ives released a t-shirt featuring the same design, raising over $600,000 (£445,186) for Trans Lifeline, a crisis hotline providing support to trans individuals in the United States and Canada.

Beyond the immediate funds, Ives plans to allocate the proceeds via microgrants to support trans individuals across the U.S. GLAAD’s auction of Carey’s jacket reflects a broader commitment to trans rights and visibility, ensuring that the conversation continues in a respectful and impactful manner.

Interested bidders can participate in the auction through GLAAD’s official platform. The combination of celebrity influence and charitable action aims to raise awareness and provide essential support for the trans community during critical times.

This initiative not only highlights the importance of representation in the media but also serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by trans individuals. As the auction date approaches, anticipation builds around the potential impact of this unique fundraising effort.
