The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has initiated a nationwide membership mobilization effort with the appointment of Kashim Imam as chair of its newly formed Membership Revalidation, Mobilisation and Registration (MRMR) Committee. The committee also includes Aisha Yesufu as deputy chairman and Sekonte Davis as secretary, and it has been tasked with submitting an interim report within 30 days.

During the inauguration of the committee, David Mark, the National Chairman of ADC, characterized the establishment of the committee as a “significant milestone” aimed at repositioning the party for growth and internal cohesion. He emphasized the necessity of establishing a solid and verifiable membership base that can translate into political success.

Mark stated, “Membership is the lifeblood of any democratic organisation. It determines legitimacy, strength, reach, and ultimately, electoral victory.” He noted that the ADC must revalidate current members, register new ones, and strengthen its grassroots presence to ensure national relevance. The committee is expected to oversee the registration of new members to promote inclusivity, transparency, and adherence to democratic principles.

Focus on Grassroots Engagement

In his remarks, Imam pledged to reconnect the ADC with the average Nigerian. He declared, “Our party, the ADC, is a grassroots movement. For too long, the average Nigerian has been cheated and marginalised.” Imam criticized the current taxation system, stating that it has become an additional burden on citizens.

He assured the public that the ADC aims to empower the ordinary Nigerians, encouraging them to take ownership of the party. “This is what will make the ADC different: it will belong to the average Nigerian. Our party will strive to ensure that the average Nigerian gets a fair share,” he said.

Imam highlighted Nigeria’s abundant resources, asserting that the country should not be facing poverty. He expressed confidence that under ADC leadership, poverty would be eradicated.

Commitment to Mobilisation

The newly appointed committee members are committed to extensive mobilization efforts across Nigeria. Imam stated, “You will see us mobilising and registering members in the creeks, in the deserts, and across the length and breadth of this country. This is a mass movement.” His comments reflect a determination to engage with citizens in all regions, ensuring that the ADC resonates with various demographics.

The ADC’s initiative comes at a crucial time as the party seeks to strengthen its position in the political landscape. The emphasis on grassroots involvement and member engagement is expected to play a vital role in shaping the party’s future strategies and electoral success.

The establishment of the MRMR Committee signals a focused effort by the ADC to build a robust membership base that aligns with the party’s vision and goals. As the committee embarks on its mission, the ADC aims to set itself apart as a party that genuinely represents and advocates for the interests of the average Nigerian.
