Anthony Joshua Teams Up with Oleksandr Usyk’s Camp for December Bout
In a significant shift in his training approach, Anthony Joshua has announced that he is now working with members of Oleksandr Usyk’s team in preparation for his upcoming fight against Jake Paul on December 19 in Miami. This decision follows Joshua’s split from his previous coaching setup as he gears up to make his return to the ring after a fifteen-month hiatus.
Joshua, a two-time former heavyweight champion, made the announcement during a press conference on Friday. He emphasized the need for a new environment, stating that London had become distracting for him. “No, I won’t be trained by Ben Davison. I said that London is a bit distracting for me, so I was invited to train with Team Usyk,” he explained.
Training with Team Usyk
The collaboration with Usyk’s camp comes as a surprise, given that Usyk has defeated Joshua twice in the past. Nonetheless, Joshua expressed enthusiasm about this new training phase. He mentioned that he has been training in Spain and is grateful for the opportunity to learn from those who have worked closely with Usyk, which he views as one of the best in the world.
“Getting an insight into how someone who’s achieved so much has been phenomenal; it’s been a great experience and very challenging,” he stated. Joshua clarified that while he has been training alongside Usyk’s team for “a couple of months now,” he is not sparring with the Ukrainian boxer as Usyk is currently in a separate training camp.
Looking Ahead to the Fight
The upcoming bout against Jake Paul is particularly significant for Joshua, as it marks his return after a knockout loss to Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in 2022. The match will be streamed on Netflix, further increasing its visibility and excitement. Joshua’s move to align with Usyk’s team highlights his commitment to enhancing his skills and strategies ahead of this crucial fight.
As Joshua continues his preparations, fans and analysts alike will be keenly watching how this new alliance influences his performance against Paul, who has garnered attention for his unorthodox rise in the boxing world. With the fight approaching, Joshua’s training decisions may hold the key to his success in the ring.
