Formula 1 Secures Future with New Concorde Agreement to 2030
Formula 1 has cemented its long-term future by signing the new Concorde Governance Agreement with the FIA and its eleven teams. This agreement is set to last until 2030 and aims to enhance investment in crucial areas such as race regulation, race direction, stewarding, and technical expertise. The new governance framework complements the Commercial Concorde Agreement announced earlier in the year, marking the completion of the ninth Concorde package in the sport’s history.
This agreement establishes a foundation for how revenue is distributed, how the championship operates, and how the FIA will be supported in the coming seasons. A significant aspect of the new deal is the defined percentage of Formula 1’s revenues allocated to the FIA, which follows what were described as “robust discussions.” This financial allocation is intended to strengthen various components of the sport, from race direction and stewarding to technical and regulatory development, particularly as the sport prepares for a new era of rules.
Investment and Stability Ahead of Major Changes
Formula 1 executives emphasize that this structure provides the championship with stability during a time of significant growth and change. The new governance framework is expected to facilitate investment ahead of the 2026 regulations and the introduction of Cadillac as the sport’s eleventh team next season.
Mohammed Ben Sulayem, president of the FIA, expressed pride in the collaborative effort behind the agreement. “The ninth Concorde Agreement secures the FIA Formula 1 World Championship’s long-term future,” he stated. “I would like to thank Stefano Domenicali and his team for their strong collaboration, which has built a framework grounded in fairness, stability, and shared ambition.”
Furthermore, the agreement allows Formula 1 to continue modernizing its regulatory, technological, and operational capabilities. It aims to support race directors, officials, and the thousands of volunteers whose expertise is crucial to each race.
Enhancing Regulatory Framework and Driver Support
The announcement also highlights a commitment to improving race regulation, race direction, and stewarding, which many believe will enhance the overall quality of the championship. Recently, Formula 1 drivers have expressed support for the FIA’s decision to appoint a permanent panel of stewards. This change is expected to address the inconsistencies in penalties that have affected the championship throughout 2025.
The new governance agreement positions Formula 1 to remain at the forefront of technological innovation, setting new standards in global sport. As the championship evolves, it aims to provide exciting technological advancements and captivating sporting action for fans, broadcasters, and partners, all within a stable and structured regulatory framework.
In summary, the latest Concorde Agreement represents a pivotal moment for Formula 1, ensuring a secure and progressive path forward as it prepares for an exciting new chapter in its history.
