Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has publicly apologized following a confrontation with a television cameraman after his team’s defeat against Newcastle United on Saturday. The incident occurred at the final whistle when Guardiola allegedly grabbed the cameraman’s headphones and pushed him during a brief altercation. This behavior has left the manager feeling both ashamed and embarrassed.

In his apology, Guardiola expressed regret for his actions, stating, “I feel embarrassed, ashamed when I see it. I don’t like it. I apologised after one second to the cameraman.” He attributed the incident to his passionate nature and his commitment to defending his team. He further explained, “I am who I am. After 1,000 games I’m not a perfect person; I make huge mistakes. It’s not about that. What is for sure, I defend any team and my club.”

Reflecting on the match, Guardiola also addressed his interaction with Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes. He emphasized their longstanding relationship, saying, “We have known Bruno for many, many years… I always have a good relationship with him. I love it.” He maintained that his emotions sometimes get the better of him, describing himself as “an emotional guy” who enjoys engaging in conversations.

As Manchester City prepares for their upcoming UEFA Champions League match against Bayer Leverkusen, Guardiola confirmed that midfielder Rodri will be unavailable. Rodri has not started since a match against Brentford in October and has made only a brief appearance since then. Guardiola provided an update on Rodri’s recovery, noting, “Not long, not short but not long. We’re in the process that he will be back, and when he is back we will wait a little bit more to make sure he’s fine.”

Guardiola’s actions and subsequent apology highlight the intense emotions that surround competitive sports. As City continues its campaign, the focus will undoubtedly shift back to the pitch, particularly with the Champions League match on the horizon.
