Invergordon Teen Scores Hat-Trick in Historic Scottish Cup Win
Seventeen-year-old Torran Lambie made headlines on March 17, 2024, by scoring a hat-trick that led Invergordon FC to a landmark victory against Dunipace in the Scottish Cup Second Preliminary Round. This 3-1 win marks the club’s most significant achievement to date, allowing them to progress to the first round of the competition for the first time in their history.
Lambie’s performance was pivotal, and he was named man of the match for his contributions. The young forward, currently on loan from Ross County, expressed his pride in helping the team reach new heights. He remarked, “It is a great feeling, we have been working towards this as a team and it was really good to get through and pull it over the line.”
The match had its challenges. Dunipace took the lead just six minutes before halftime and dominated possession throughout regular time. Nevertheless, Invergordon displayed resilience. They equalized in the dying moments when Lambie found space in the box, scoring in the third minute of injury time.
In extra time, Lambie continued to shine, netting his second goal in the 96th minute with a close-range finish from a cross on the right wing. He sealed the victory shortly after by driving into the box from the left wing and firing into the top right corner.
Lambie, a student at Grantown Grammar School and a former member of the Scotland Schools squad, highlighted the team’s hard work in maintaining fitness throughout the match. “The fitness levels really showed,” he noted. “We were able to stretch them and run in behind and just cause them problems in extra time. We were dominant and it was just about getting it over the line.”
Invergordon now eagerly awaits the draw for the first round of the Scottish Cup, scheduled for Sunday night. Lambie emphasized the importance of remaining grounded, expressing that the team is ready to face any opponent, simply grateful to still be in the competition. He stated, “It is a great feeling, obviously we’ll go as far as we can and it is just about working week in and week out.”
The victory not only signifies a historic moment for Invergordon FC but also showcases the potential of young talent like Lambie, who played a crucial role in this remarkable achievement.
