Knežević Questions Mujović’s Integrity Amid Past Scandals
The political landscape in Podgorica is once again under scrutiny as Milan Knežević, president of the Democratic People’s Party (DNP), raises concerns about potential corruption involving the newly elected mayor, Saša Mujović. Knežević’s comments come after a series of scandals that led to the downfall of three previous mayors, all linked to allegations of bribery and corruption.
In a recent video posted on his Facebook account, Knežević drew parallels between the past leaders of Podgorica—Miomir Mugoša, Slavoljub Migo Stijepović, and Ivan Vuković—and the current administration. He accused them of engaging in corrupt practices, including secret contracts and bribery, which he claims have plagued the city for years.
Knežević specifically highlighted the controversial issue of a proposed waste management facility in Botun, which he claims would further harm the residents of Zeta. He stated, “They wanted to turn Botun into a landfill. For decades, they have poisoned the citizens of Zeta. They ended up on a political landfill.” This strong denunciation underscores the potential ramifications of Mujović’s decisions moving forward.
The DNP leader posed a critical question regarding Mujović’s future decisions: “Will he choose responsibility or repeat the same mistakes?” Knežević’s remarks resonate strongly with citizens who are wary of political leaders repeating past errors that have damaged the reputation of Podgorica.
As the debate intensifies, the community’s focus will shift to whether Mujović can navigate the political landscape without succumbing to the pressures that led to the previous mayors’ failures. Knežević concluded his message with a clear stance against the proposed waste facility, stating, “No to the collector.”
The implications of this situation are significant not only for the political future of Mujović but also for the trust of the public in local governance. The coming months will likely reveal whether the new administration can rise above the shadows cast by its predecessors or if it will become ensnared in the same web of corruption that has plagued Podgorica for years.
