Super League Disciplinary Actions: Key Sanctions from Round 20

The Rugby Football League (RFL) has announced significant disciplinary actions following the latest match review panel’s assessment of Round 20 in the Super League. Among the key sanctions, Hull KR’s Tyrone May faces a two-match suspension due to a Grade D charge for questioning the integrity of a match official during his team’s victory over the Salford Red Devils on September 28, 2023. This infraction has resulted in May accumulating a total of 13 penalty points this season.
May’s absence will be felt as he is set to miss crucial games, including a highly anticipated clash against the Wigan Warriors scheduled for next week. His teammate, Michael McIlorum, received a Grade A charge for head contact during the same match, resulting in one penalty point, bringing his season total to 3.5 points.
In addition to these sanctions, Matt Frawley of the Huddersfield Giants and Brodie Croft from the Leeds Rhinos have both been handed Grade B charges. Frawley has been penalized for head contact, while Croft’s infraction involved a trip that led to his sin-binning. Both players received three penalty points, which raises their season totals to three points each.
Warrington Wolves debutant Ryan Matterson also faced a Grade B charge for late contact on the passer during the team’s defeat against the Leigh Leopards, earning him three additional penalty points. Meanwhile, Leigh’s Tesi Niu received a Grade A charge for late contact on the passer but will not face further action, resulting in one penalty point.
