As Rosenior prepares to take the helm at Stamford Bridge, former Liverpool player Steve Nicol has highlighted two significant challenges he will face. Nicol, speaking on ESPN, emphasized the pressure to comply with the owners’ directives and the heightened expectations that come with coaching a high-profile club like Chelsea.

“There’s a problem – you’re going to have to do as you’re told,” Nicol remarked, referencing Maresca’s inability to assert control over player selections. He indicated that a successful coach must have the authority to decide who plays, who is substituted, and other essential tactical decisions. Nicol noted that this lack of autonomy appears to have contributed to Maresca’s departure.

Nicol also underscored the intense scrutiny Rosenior will encounter. He stated, “Maresca, when he lost a couple of games, was under pressure. That’s the difference between managing Strasbourg and managing Chelsea. Your job is to win. That’s a different ball game.” The expectations at Chelsea, a club with a rich history of success, are considerably higher than those at Strasbourg.
