Police Urge Safety as Latitude Festival Draws Thousands This Weekend

As the Latitude Festival approaches, taking place from July 24 to July 27, 2025, Suffolk Police have issued important travel and safety advice for the thousands of attendees expected to gather at the site. The popular music and arts festival, known for its vibrant atmosphere, attracts a diverse crowd, and authorities want to ensure a safe experience for everyone involved.
Police highlight that theft is a common concern at festivals, particularly for those camping on-site. Suffolk Police have noted that mobile phones, laptops, tablets, and cash are among the most frequently stolen items. Historically, incidents of theft often occur on the first night when many festival-goers are still settling in or while they enjoy performances.
In light of this, police advise attendees to remain vigilant and take proactive steps to protect their belongings. Additionally, festival-goers driving to the event should anticipate potential delays along the A12, especially between Yoxford and the festival grounds. Authorities recommend allowing extra time for travel and suggest avoiding the area if possible.
To enhance safety and security, Suffolk Police have provided a range of practical tips for festival attendees:
– Follow the guidance of stewards and security personnel.
– Stay with friends and look out for one another.
– With warm weather expected, moderate alcohol consumption; drink water between beverages.
– Exercise caution when meeting new people, and avoid going off alone with strangers.
– If feeling uncomfortable, seek assistance from festival staff and “Ask for Angela” for help.
– Set up camp near friends and familiarize yourself with the festival layout to locate facilities easily.
– Limit the amount of cash and valuables brought to the event, utilizing lockers for storage when possible.
Further, attendees are advised to keep personal items secure, particularly mobile phones, which can easily be taken by pickpockets in crowded settings. If arriving by car, it is crucial to remove all valuables, including cash and electronic devices.
In an effort to maintain a safe environment, Superintendent Matt Bodmer stated, “Latitude is a wonderful community festival, and our main goal is to keep people safe.” He emphasized that officers will be present to assist attendees with any concerns, encouraging interaction rather than avoidance.
The policing strategy will include officers trained to identify subtle signs of potential criminal activity as part of Operation Servator, which has been implemented at various events across the UK. This highly visible approach aims to deter crime while maintaining a welcoming atmosphere for festival-goers.
In support of these efforts, Tim Passmore, Suffolk’s Police and Crime Commissioner, remarked, “We are very lucky to have one of the country’s major festivals right here on our doorstep, which is great for the economy and great for introducing new visitors to our beautiful county.” He urged festival-goers to remain sensible, prioritize safety, and show respect for one another.
As the countdown to Latitude Festival continues, authorities are committed to ensuring a memorable and secure experience for all attendees. By following safety guidelines and remaining aware of their surroundings, festival-goers can contribute to a positive atmosphere as they enjoy the vibrant performances and activities planned for the weekend.
