Montenegro’s Vukotic and Cakovic Crowned World Champions in Jiu-Jitsu

Montenegro’s representatives, Stefan Vukotic and Lidija Cakovic, have emerged victorious at the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Thailand, capturing the title in the mixed show category. Competing in Bangkok, the duo previously secured a bronze medal in the duo show category, further solidifying their status as formidable competitors in the sport.

The pair overcame strong contenders from countries with rich jiu-jitsu traditions, including the host nation Thailand, as well as Austria and Italy. Their coach, Ranko Vukotic, expressed immense pride in their accomplishments, stating, “This success transcends the boundaries of sport and serves as an inspiration for an entire generation of young fighters in Montenegro.”

He added, “Yesterday’s bronze was gold for me, and now they have shown they can defeat the Thai contingent, the home of the duo show discipline.”

Historic Achievement

This championship victory marks a significant achievement for Vukotic and Cakovic, following their previous triumphs at major competitions, including the World Games and the European Championship, where they were also crowned champions. However, the celebrations will be brief, as the athletes prepare to return to the mat in Bangkok for the duo classic event. Vukotic anticipates another noteworthy performance from his team.

In addition to the success of Vukotic and Cakovic, another Montenegrin athlete, Arso Milic, also earned a bronze medal in the under 94-kilogram fighting category. This further highlights Montenegro’s growing presence in the sport on the international stage.
