Alien Theory Surrounds Mysterious Interstellar Object 3I/ATLAS
Astrophysicist Avi Loeb has raised intriguing questions about the interstellar object 3I/ATLAS, suggesting it may be propelled by an artificial engine. As this enigmatic object approaches Earth, Loeb proposes that its unexpected behavior is indicative of possible extraterrestrial involvement.
According to Loeb, the comet exhibits what he describes as “non-gravitational acceleration,” which could imply the presence of an engine. He stated, “There was some propulsion that moved it away from its original trajectory, and I would have expected it would lose 10 to 20% of its mass as a result of the recoil.” This unique insight has sparked interest among scientists and the public alike, especially as 3I/ATLAS prepares for its closest approach to Earth on December 19, 2023, at a distance of approximately 167 million miles.
Unusual Characteristics of 3I/ATLAS
The comet’s recent appearance has also drawn attention. When it came close to the sun, 3I/ATLAS displayed a striking blue hue, which Loeb believes may be linked to its propulsion system. He elaborated on the color change, stating, “Alternatively, the non-gravitational acceleration might be the technological signature of an internal engine. This might also explain the report on 3I/ATLAS getting bluer than the Sun.”
Loeb noted that for a natural comet, the blue color is quite surprising. Typically, dust on a comet’s surface scatters sunlight in a way that causes it to appear redder than the sun’s photosphere, which is about 5,800 degrees Kelvin. He referred to this blue appearance as the ninth anomaly in the list of unexpected properties associated with 3I/ATLAS.
Implications for Scientific Research
The upcoming close flyby of 3I/ATLAS presents a significant opportunity for scientists to investigate whether this object is indeed a natural comet or potentially artificial. Loeb’s theories could lead to groundbreaking discoveries in our understanding of interstellar objects and their origins.
He speculated that the cause of the blue color could also stem from “a source of artificial light” or possibly “a signature of ionized carbon monoxide for a natural comet.” As researchers prepare for the approach, the data gathered during this period may provide valuable insights into the nature of 3I/ATLAS and the possibility of extraterrestrial technology.
The anticipation surrounding 3I/ATLAS continues to grow, with many eager to learn more about this mysterious visitor from beyond our solar system. The findings from this close encounter could reshape our understanding of celestial phenomena and the potential existence of life beyond Earth.
