Carlos Baleba Addresses Manchester United Transfer Speculation
Carlos Baleba has publicly addressed speculation regarding a potential transfer to Manchester United, clarifying that the rumors have not negatively impacted his performance this season. The Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder was linked with a £100 million move to Old Trafford during the summer transfer window, following a standout season with his club. Despite the significant interest, Baleba remained at the Amex Stadium, where he has since made 15 appearances for Brighton.
Although Baleba has been a regular starter for Brighton, some fans and analysts have noted a dip in his form compared to last season. When questioned about the impact of transfer speculation on his performance, he stated in an interview with Sky Sports on Sunday, “I don’t think it affected me negatively, but I had a lot of pressure on me. When I started this season, I wanted to show the same performances as last season. Every day I try to work hard and get back to my level. Did I put too much pressure on myself? Yes, I think so, but I think it’s good.”
Future Transfer Interests and Changing Valuations
As the January transfer window approaches, Baleba is once again being linked with a move to Manchester United, who are seeking to strengthen their midfield options. United’s attempts to bolster their squad in the summer were ultimately unsuccessful, leaving manager Ruben Amorim with limited choices. Initially, Brighton set Baleba’s asking price at £100 million, but reports suggest that the club’s position may have softened since the summer. Sacha Tavolieri from Sky Sports indicated earlier this month that Brighton might now consider offers around €85 million (£74.3 million).
Interestingly for United, Baleba appears to favor a move to Old Trafford over potential interest from Bayern Munich, who are evaluating their options amid uncertainty surrounding Leon Goretzka‘s future. In addition to Baleba, United is also tracking other players, including Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace and Elliot Anderson, but the latter is unlikely to be available as Nottingham Forest is set to reject any advances for the England international.
Impact on Team Dynamics
If Manchester United fails to secure at least one midfielder in January, it could affect Kobbie Mainoo’s prospects for a loan move. The 20-year-old is eager for more playing time, with Napoli reportedly interested in his services. However, United’s management prefers a loan option rather than a permanent sale.
On the pitch, Manchester United’s next match will be against Bournemouth on Monday. A victory would elevate them to fifth place in the Premier League standings, emphasizing the importance of strengthening their midfield options as they pursue a top position in the league.
