A man from Rhydyfelin has been granted a conditional discharge after admitting to harassment involving excessive unwanted communication directed at a woman. Ioan Lewis, aged 31, appeared before Aberystwyth Magistrates’ Court on March 5, 2024, where he changed his initial not guilty plea to guilty just before a scheduled trial.

The harassment charge pertains to Lewis’s actions towards Katie Fletcher during a period from January 10 to February 10 of the previous year. According to court documents, Lewis sent numerous unsolicited messages that caused distress to Fletcher. The magistrates determined that his behavior constituted harassment under the law.

In addition to the conditional discharge, magistrates ordered Lewis to pay £200 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service and a surcharge of £26 to support victim services. The conditional discharge will last for a period of six months, during which Lewis must refrain from further offenses.

This case highlights the legal consequences of harassment and the importance of communication boundaries in relationships. The court’s decision serves as a reminder of the responsibilities individuals have in their interactions with others.
