Keeley Hawes Takes Risks in High-Octane New Series The Assassin
Keeley Hawes has embraced significant risks while filming for her latest role in the Amazon Prime series, The Assassin. In her portrayal of a hitwoman on the run, Hawes executed what she describes as the most dangerous action sequence of her career. The thrilling project features intense motorcycle chases, pushing the boundaries of her previous work.
Hawes remarked, “This series has the biggest stunt piece I’ve ever done.” She elaborated on a particularly exhilarating scene, stating, “There’s a big scene we shot there where I’m riding a motorcycle and we are being chased. We had a lot of fun doing that on the back of a contraption with a bike attached.” Despite the inherent dangers of such stunts, Hawes expressed her enthusiasm, highlighting her love for challenges. “I’ve really enjoyed it. I love a challenge and some of this has been really challenging in a good way,” she added.
Thrills and Humor Intertwined
The series promises to be more than just an action thriller. According to Hawes, it balances high-stakes drama and humor, making it appealing to a broad audience. “There’s very little like this on TV. It has something in it for everyone and crosses all genres,” she commented.
Hawes described The Assassin as a unique blend of thriller elements, featuring a compelling relationship at its core. “It’s a thriller that has high stakes drama and action, but there’s a lovely relationship at the heart of the story. There are some stunt-heavy scenes, and it’s broken up with brilliant bits of dialogue which adds great humour to the series,” she stated. This combination of action and wit is what she believes sets it apart from other serious dramas she has worked on, such as Bodyguard and Line of Duty.
A Gripping Narrative
Set to stream on Prime Video from July 25, 2024, The Assassin follows the life of a retired assassin who is forced to reconnect with her estranged son. As they navigate their tumultuous relationship, her dangerous past resurfaces, compelling them to go on the run. The narrative promises to uncover a dark conspiracy that threatens not only their safety but also the bond they share.
This upcoming crime thriller has been touted as one of this year’s most anticipated spy stories. Hawes, who gained prominence for her role as Zoe Reynolds in the acclaimed BBC series Spooks, has also starred as DI Alex Drake in Ashes to Ashes. With her extensive experience in the genre, her latest venture is highly anticipated by fans and critics alike.
In summary, The Assassin not only showcases Keeley Hawes’ willingness to take risks for her craft but also highlights a fresh approach to the spy thriller genre. Viewers can expect an engaging blend of action, humor, and emotional depth when the series premieres later this month.
