Ant and Dec Launch Lawsuit Against Leading Art Dealer

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, better known as the television duo Ant and Dec, have initiated legal action against prominent modern art dealer Andrew Lilley. The lawsuit has been formally filed at the High Court in London, with the specifics of the case not yet disclosed.
The pair, aged 49, are represented by the London law firm Wedlake Bell, which has expertise in dispute resolution and business litigation. The court papers name the claimants as Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly in the Chancery Division (Business List). No date for a preliminary hearing has been established.
Lilley, based in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, runs a company that promotes itself as offering “Banksy prints that you just can’t get anywhere else.” His business reportedly had nearly £2 million in assets last year, according to Companies House records. The lawsuit falls under Part Eight of the Civil Procedure Rules, which typically involves cases that are unlikely to be contested, suggesting a potentially swifter resolution compared to more complex trials.
In 2009, Ant and Dec collectively purchased Banksy artwork during a £1 million exhibition. These pieces include the iconic rat image associated with the elusive street artist, which Ant has expressed a desire to retain at his £6 million home in Wimbledon following his divorce from Lisa Armstrong.
Lilley has gained a reputation as a “Contemporary Art Trader,” claiming on his company’s website to assist clients globally in finding art that resonates with them. His business also highlights services ranging from securing the latest Banksy pieces to sought-after works by Andy Warhol. Additionally, Lilley’s company offers a money-back guarantee for unsatisfied purchases.
When contacted for comment, Andrew Lilley declined to provide any statements regarding the lawsuit. As the case unfolds, the implications for both the collectors and the art dealer could be significant, especially given the high-profile nature of the claimants and the valuable artwork involved.
