Paedophile Shaun Fox Sentenced to 14 Years for Grooming Teen

A 43-year-old man, Shaun Fox, has been sentenced to more than 14 years in prison for engaging in sexually abusive behaviour towards a 14-year-old girl. Appearing at Cambridge Crown Court on August 13, 2023, Fox received a sentence of 14 years and six months after pleading guilty to multiple charges, including breaching a sexual harm prevention order and distributing indecent material.
Fox, from Ravensthorpe, Peterborough, initiated contact with his victim on social media platform Instagram on May 18, 2023. By posing as a 17-year-old boy, he coerced the girl into sharing inappropriate images and participating in sexually explicit discussions. He requested that she send him inappropriate photographs and even encouraged her to engage in sexual acts while communicating online.
The situation escalated when the victim’s mother discovered the exchanges. Posing as her daughter on WhatsApp, she managed to obtain and review three videos of child abuse that Fox had sent. In the process, he attempted to delete incriminating messages and urged the victim’s mother to do the same.
Cambridgeshire Police were able to trace Fox through an email address associated with his Instagram account. Officers located CCTV footage of him purchasing a mobile phone and top-up at a Sainsbury’s store in Bretton, Peterborough. He was arrested at his home on July 1, 2023, and during police interviews, he made a troubling statement, claiming to feel like a 17-year-old trapped in a 43-year-old’s body.
At the sentencing, Judge Grey condemned Fox’s actions, stating, “Your behaviour was disgusting,” and emphasized that the victim’s life had been irrevocably altered by his predatory actions. He acknowledged that the victim would likely feel shame and humiliation following the exposure of the situation, adding that the fault lay entirely with Fox.
Detective Constable Jon Edwards, who led the investigation, commented on the case, stating, “The custodial sentence reflects the severity of Fox’s offences and the judge’s comments emphasise how dangerous he is.” He praised the victim and her family for their bravery throughout what he described as a nightmarish ordeal.
In addition to his prison sentence, Fox has been placed on the sex offenders register for life and subjected to a lifetime sexual harm prevention order. He is also under a restraining order for ten years, marking a significant step towards safeguarding potential future victims.
