Meet the Chefs Competing in MasterChef UK Heats 7 and 8

New episodes of MasterChef UK are set to air this week, featuring two heats showcasing a diverse group of amateur chefs. The competition will take place on August 27 and August 28, with six contestants in Heat 7 and five in Heat 8 vying for a coveted spot in the quarter-finals. This season has had a rocky start, as it resumed after delays earlier in the year due to internal controversies surrounding the show’s presenters.
Following the dismissal of hosts John Torode and Gregg Wallace in July, the BBC decided to air episodes that had already been filmed in 2023. The decision has sparked discussion among fans, but a spokesperson emphasized that the focus remains on the contestants and their culinary journeys. The show airs three episodes weekly, including two heats and a quarter-final, maintaining this schedule until knockout week begins in 2025.
Contestants of Heat 7
The first heat will feature six amateur chefs eager to impress the judges. Among them is Vishal, a data scientist from Glasgow originally from India. Vishal aims to showcase the richness of Indian cuisine, stating, “I like cooking everything but mostly love feeding people Indian food to show its range.”
Another contestant, Harry, a fishmonger from London, brings a unique perspective with his fusion of British and French cooking. He explains, “I’d say my food is a fusion of classic British and French cooking, using modern techniques combined with great British ingredients.”
Also competing is Michal, a behavioural coach from St Albans, who describes her cooking as “elevated home cooking” influenced by her travels. She aims to replicate local cuisines that inspire her during her journeys.
Then there’s Munopa, a gap year student from Taunton with roots in Zimbabwe. She draws on classical French and British influences, creating dishes that balance simplicity with intricate techniques. “I make dishes that usually have very few key ingredients but use various techniques and textural elements to make them interesting,” she shares.
Plasterer Darren from Northamptonshire offers a home-cooked approach, stating, “I would describe my style as classical, big flavours and big portions!” He is inspired by television cooking personalities and enjoys creating hearty meals.
Lastly, Mojgan, a fashion designer from Bournemouth, presents Persian cuisine, saying, “Every dish I create is rooted in centuries of tradition. I have a broad palette, but I’m mainly inspired by Persian cuisine.”
Contestants of Heat 8
Heat 8 will feature five additional amateur chefs, all eager to demonstrate their culinary skills. Contestant Michael, a senior environmental protection officer from Shrewsbury, emphasizes his African roots, stating, “My favourite ingredient to cook with is red palm oil, which is part of my heritage and the soul of many of the dishes I grew up with.”
Another participant, Henry, a retail business manager from Kent, attributes his cooking to his passion for varied cuisines. He aims to create elaborate dishes that are both enjoyable and creative, saying, “I get bored cooking and eating the same thing again.”
Education welfare officer Dan from Cornwall enjoys exploring different culinary traditions. He expresses a love for wholesome food meant to be shared, emphasizing the social aspects of dining. “A roast dinner is one of my favourites,” he notes.
Also in the mix is Gabi, a business development consultant from London, who is inspired by both classic French and Asian cuisines. She enjoys experimenting with new techniques, particularly in fine dining and molecular gastronomy, recently creating a mashed potato foam.
Finally, Anjeza, a money laundering investigator from Nottingham, brings a fusion of traditional and modern influences to her cooking. She aims to create dishes that evoke feelings of home, sharing her Albanian roots through her culinary creations.
Despite the controversy surrounding the show’s leadership, the contestants are ready to showcase their talents in the kitchen. The episodes promise to deliver a mix of culture, creativity, and passion for food, making for an engaging viewing experience. Fans can tune in at 8 PM on Wednesdays and Thursdays, with the quarter-final airing at 8:30 PM on Fridays.
