Viewers of the Great British Bake Off were filled with relief as fan favourite contestant Pui Man successfully avoided elimination during the tense biscuit week of the competition. In the second episode of the 2025 season, aired on March 7, the bakers faced challenges that tested their biscuit-making prowess, ultimately leading to the departure of Leighton, a 59-year-old software delivery manager.

The episode began with the contestants tasked with creating twelve slice-and-bake biscuits. This was followed by a technical challenge where they had to produce a batch of perfect chocolate hobnobs. Despite finishing last in the technical round, Pui Man turned her fortunes around during the showstopper challenge. She crafted an intricate biscuit house inspired by her parents, which impressed judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.

While Pui Man’s performance relieved her supporters, the elimination of Leighton caught many viewers off guard. Reflecting on his time in the tent, he stated, “Someone had to go, right? I had the most fun on Bake Off. I loved it. I had the opportunity and I came up against amazing bakers.” His departure marked the second elimination of the season, following Hassan, a 30-year-old scientist, who exited in week one after his Swiss roll creation collapsed.

Viewers took to social media to express their mixed feelings about the results. One user on X (formerly Twitter) noted, “Pui Man safe, God bless, but I did not expect Leighton to go. I thought it was gonna be Aaron.” Another commented, “I was so busy cheering on Pui Man that I didn’t think about Leighton going. NOOOOOO!”

Toby, a 29-year-old business development executive, secured first place in the technical challenge for the second consecutive week, earning the nickname “Techy Toby” from his fellow contestants. His immaculate hobnob earned him praise from the judges, with fans on social media dubbing him “The Technical King.”

The show’s highlight came during the showstopper challenge, where bakers were instructed to create a “highly decorated biscuit time capsule” filled with at least five edible elements. Tom, a creative entrepreneur from London, was named Star Baker for his “faultless” biscuit cottage inspired by his Danish nanny, receiving a rare Hollywood handshake for his efforts.

Looking ahead, next week’s episode will feature Bread Week, introducing a new set of challenges for the bakers. As the competition intensifies, viewers will witness one more contestant say goodbye to the iconic tent. The excitement surrounding the Great British Bake Off continues to grow, promising more thrilling moments as the season progresses.
