Morrissey Cancels Over 200 Concerts Since 2012: A Closer Look
Morrissey, the iconic former frontman of The Smiths, has made headlines again as reports confirm that he has cancelled or postponed over 200 solo shows since 2012. This trend has become a notable aspect of his career, with fans frequently witnessing abrupt changes to his concert schedule.
Recently, he cancelled two upcoming performances in California, attributing the decision to an “adverse reaction to a prescription medication.” This is just one instance in a long line of concert cancellations that have marked his solo career. Last November, he announced the cancellation of a South American tour, citing “extreme exhaustion,” which followed shortly after two concerts in Mexico were scrapped for the same reason.
In addition to health-related issues, Morrissey’s concert history includes numerous logistical challenges. For instance, in October, he scrapped two scheduled gigs in Turkey for December, stirring speculation among fans regarding his apparent support for Israel. Earlier in the summer, he was unable to perform in Stockholm, claiming that he and his band were “travel-weary beyond belief” and were receiving “zero music industry support.”
His struggles with health have been a recurring theme; he has previously pulled shows due to a “severe sinusitis attack” and even due to “toxic food poisoning” from contaminated food. There have also been instances of serious concerns for his safety, including reports of a “credible threat” against his life, which further complicated his touring efforts.
According to data compiled by the fan site Morrissey-Solo, Morrissey has announced a total of 639 shows since 2012. However, he has only performed at 449 of these events, resulting in a completion rate of 70 percent. The years 2013, 2016, and 2025 stand out as particularly challenging, with Morrissey playing only 16 of 64, 29 of 46, and 36 of 68 scheduled shows respectively.
The following table summarizes his concert statistics from 2012 to 2025:

WeHeartM, another fan site, estimates a total of 402 cancellations, postponements, or abbreviated performances across Morrissey’s extensive career, which began in the early 1980s with The Smiths.
Looking ahead, Morrissey is set to kick off his 2026 tour in San Antonio, Texas, on January 10. The singer recently announced his only UK performance for this year, scheduled for February 28 at The O2 in London, with remaining tickets available for purchase.
In addition to his touring plans, Morrissey has hinted at new music, revealing an apparent tracklist for a forthcoming album over the Christmas period. This album appears to be separate from his long-delayed project titled “Bonfire of Teenagers.” Details surrounding this new music have yet to be clarified, but Morrissey’s announcement came alongside the logo for Sire Records, indicating a potential new partnership.
Last year, Morrissey openly criticized Capitol Records, alleging the company operated with “fascism” and a “creeping culture of censorship” regarding his work. He expressed concerns that the label had signed “Bonfire of Teenagers” merely to sabotage it.
As Morrissey navigates both health challenges and the complexities of the music industry, his devoted fanbase remains attentive to his next moves, whether on stage or in the studio.
