In a recent interview with Tatler, acclaimed Australian actress Rose Byrne expressed her admiration for fellow Australian star Kylie Minogue, revealing that she feels like a “10-year-old girl” whenever they are together. Byrne, who is on the cover of the magazine’s April issue, shared personal anecdotes about her interactions with Minogue and reflected on her early career, including her collaboration with the late actor Heath Ledger.

Admiration for Kylie Minogue

Byrne reminisced about attending Minogue’s concerts in her youth, saying, “I went to all her concerts. I am a little bit friendly with her now.” Despite her success, Byrne maintains a sense of wonder when it comes to Minogue, highlighting the lasting impact the singer has had on her life. “I’m still a 10-year-old girl if I’m around her,” she stated, capturing the essence of her fan admiration.

Moreover, Byrne’s reflections extend beyond music. She spoke fondly of working with Heath Ledger in the 1999 film Two Hands, which was their second film project during their teenage years. She described Ledger as “a combination of extremely kinetic and energetic and shy,” noting the unique duality of his character. “Sort of a study in contrasts. Preternaturally talented,” she added.

Influence and Career Development

Byrne credited Ledger with encouraging her to pursue acting in the United States, an experience that she described as life-changing. “He was instrumental in me getting an agent,” she recalled. “It was a very seminal personal time. That time we had was really full of joy.” This pivotal moment in her life set the stage for her future successes in Hollywood.

Recently, Byrne received a Golden Globe for her role in If I Had Legs I’d Kick You and is nominated for an Academy Award later this month. Speaking about the significance of her current role, she described it as “the greatest role of my life,” emphasizing its emotional depth. “It’s so nourishing, it’s empowering, but there is a grief to it,” she stated.

Byrne also candidly discussed her work ethic, stating, “I’m a worker. I want to work and I love it.” Despite her accolades, she admitted to having insecurities about her future in the industry. “Deep down, I also have no assurance or confidence that I will continue to work. This business doesn’t owe you anything. I have no illusions about that,” she said, showcasing a realistic perspective on the challenges of the entertainment industry.

The full feature with Byrne is available in the April issue of Tatler, which can be accessed via digital download and will be available on newsstands starting March 12, 2024.
