The Rovers Return Changes Hands: New Owners Set to Arrive

The iconic pub, The Rovers Return, located in the heart of Coronation Street, has officially changed ownership. Carla Connor has sold the beloved establishment to a new owner, Ben Driscoll, whose arrival is expected to usher in a fresh chapter for the long-standing fixture of the show.
The Rovers Return has been a central hub in Coronation Street, featuring numerous memorable characters over the years. Notable past owners include Jack and Annie Walker, portrayed by Arthur Leslie and Doris Speed, as well as Jack and Vera Duckworth and Bet and Alec Gilroy. More recently, characters like Jenny Connor and Liz McDonald have taken the reins, marking their own unique contributions to the pub’s storied history.
As the narrative unfolded, Jenny Connor, played by Sally-Ann Matthews, faced challenges that led her to leave the pub. Following a series of personal struggles and the emotional toll of losing her title as the “Queen of the Rovers” when Carla decided to sell, Jenny sought a fresh start. Her departure was marked by a poignant moment as she reflected on her feelings of unfulfillment. With encouragement from George Shuttleworth and Rita Tanner, Jenny ultimately left to explore new opportunities in Tenerife.
The New Era Begins with Ben Driscoll
The sale of The Rovers Return was confirmed when Carla revealed to her fiancé, DS Lisa Swain, that the pub was sold to Ben Driscoll. Fans of Coronation Street will recognize Ben as the boyfriend of returning character Eva Price, played by Catherine Tyldesley. The Driscoll family, including Ben’s mother, Maggie, and his two sons, along with Eva’s daughter, Suzie, are anticipated to bring new dynamics and stories to the iconic venue.
Kate Brooks, the producer of Coronation Street, expressed excitement regarding the new ownership. “We are beyond thrilled that Eva is returning as the landlady of the Rovers, with her new blended family in tow,” she stated. “The Driscolls do not arrive quietly, so expect big drama, explosive secrets and raucous knees-ups galore.”
The arrival of the Driscoll/Price clan is set to introduce a wave of new storylines, promising to captivate both long-time viewers and new fans alike. With actors of such talent in the forefront, Brooks noted, “It’s going to be an exciting and eventful ride.”
As the sale closes, anticipation builds for the new chapter at The Rovers Return. The changes at this beloved pub reflect not just a transition in ownership, but an evolution in the stories that have made Coronation Street a staple of television for over six decades. The new owners are expected to make their debut in the coming episodes, setting the stage for fresh adventures and memorable moments at Weatherfield’s most famous watering hole.
