YouTubers Sam & Colby Share Harrowing Paris Catacombs Experience
In May 2025, YouTube personalities Sam & Colby found themselves in a frightening predicament while exploring the Paris Catacombs. The duo, known for their ghost-hunting adventures, tweeted that they had become lost underground, prompting concern among their fans. Their post warned, “We have been underground in the Paris Catacombs for much longer than anticipated, meaning we can’t find our way out. We have official people looking for us, but if you don’t hear from us within six more hours, send help.” Fortunately, just two hours later, they provided an update, appearing on the streets of Paris, visibly shaken but safe.
Despite the unnerving nature of their experience, getting lost in the Catacombs is not uncommon. The extensive network, comprising around 300 kilometers of tunnels filled with human remains, is infamous for disorienting visitors. Authorities recommend that individuals explore these historical passages only with a qualified guide.
Inside the Catacombs: A Nightmare Unfolds
In a recent interview with Dexerto, Sam and Colby recounted the details of their adventure, revealing that the cramped spaces exacerbated Sam’s claustrophobia. Colby described the physical toll the experience took on them, stating, “It was one of the most physically taxing videos that we’ve ever experienced or been a part of. There was water that went up as high as our chests, so we were completely soaked.”
The challenges included navigating through small openings. Colby elaborated, “…there were multiple tiny holes we had to crawl through, even part of a cave where we had to army-crawl half a football field’s length to get to one of the bone rooms.” The duo’s experience highlights the extreme conditions often faced by explorers within the Catacombs.
What added to the unease of their journey was an unexpected encounter with an unknown individual in the dark. Colby hinted at the encounter, saying, “We did run into somebody down there that wasn’t part of our group. I don’t want to spoil what happens there, but it was a crazy experience.”
Exploring the Dark Depths of History
Sam and Colby are not alone in their exploration of the Catacombs. The site has attracted numerous YouTubers, including PewDiePie, who visited in 2014 as part of a promotional event for the horror film As Above, So Below. That film follows a group of explorers who enter the Catacombs to seek the Philosopher’s Stone, only to face unforeseen horrors.
The Paris Catacombs serve as a haunting reminder of the city’s history and are a popular yet treacherous attraction for adventurous souls. As Sam and Colby’s experience illustrates, the allure of urban exploration can come with significant risks, reinforcing the need for caution and preparation. Their story resonates with many who are drawn to the mysteries hidden beneath the surface of well-known cities.
