Trump Falls Asleep During Key Agreements, Health Concerns Rise
Donald Trump appeared to fall asleep during a live televised event while hosting leaders from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda on March 12, 2024. This incident marks the second time this week that the US president has seemingly dozed off in public, raising further concerns about his health. During the event, Trump was signing agreements intended to enhance US access to critical minerals, a move the White House anticipates will unlock new opportunities for American businesses.
Earlier in the week, Trump appeared to struggle to stay awake at a cabinet meeting while Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed the ongoing war in Ukraine. Observers noted that Trump’s head drooped forward, and he appeared dangerously close to losing his balance in his chair. The repeated instances of apparent fatigue have led to increased scrutiny of Trump’s health.
Political commentator Harry Sisson, who identifies as a Democrat, shared a video of Trump on social media platform X, stating, “Trump just fell asleep again. This keeps happening. He’s obviously not okay, and anyone who believes he’s healthy is lying to themselves. We’re screwed.” This sentiment reflects a growing unease among both supporters and critics regarding the president’s well-being.
The signing ceremony included Felix Tshisekedi, the president of the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Paul Kagame, the president of Rwanda. Officials from several other African nations also attended, highlighting the significance of the agreements which aim to bolster US interests in the region. Despite this diplomatic engagement, Trump’s remarks earlier in the week disparaging Somalia have drawn criticism, particularly his comments regarding immigration from the war-torn nation.
Questions about Trump’s health have persisted despite the White House’s assurances that he remains in “exceptional health.” Last month, footage emerged showing Trump using the handrails tightly while descending from Marine One, raising eyebrows among health experts. Concerns have been amplified by observations of Trump limping while boarding Air Force One and favoring his left leg, which some experts suggest could indicate potential cognitive issues.
Dr. John Gartner, a psychologist, has pointed out what he describes as a “telltale” indication of a specific type of dementia in Trump’s gait. He noted that Trump’s right leg appears to swing in a semicircle, which is characteristic of certain cognitive disorders. “That right leg swing is considered to be very diagnostic of a specific type of dementia, Frontotemporal dementia,” Dr. Gartner stated, emphasizing the importance of closely monitoring such symptoms.
As these incidents unfold, the political landscape continues to grapple with the implications of Trump’s health on both his administration and the broader political discourse in the United States. The president’s apparent fatigue during critical moments raises questions about his capacity to fulfill the vigorous demands of the office, especially as he navigates complex international relations and domestic challenges.
With the 2024 presidential election approaching, the scrutiny on Trump’s health is likely to intensify, further complicating an already tumultuous political environment.
