King Charles III has continued the tradition of rewarding his staff during the festive season, showcasing a refreshing approach to gift-giving that differs from his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II. The 77-year-old monarch emphasizes generosity at the Sandringham estate, where he gathers his family to celebrate Christmas while also ensuring his staff feel appreciated for their hard work throughout the year.

According to a source close to the royal family, King Charles’s gifts include a unique dinner service, featuring matching plates and side plates. The King is known to distribute these gifts incrementally, allowing staff members to receive the complete collection if they remain in service long enough. This thoughtful gesture contrasts with the Queen’s long-standing tradition of gifting a Christmas pudding to each staff member, which she did annually.

The King’s festive spirit does not stop at dinner services; he also provides a Christmas pudding as an additional treat to his staff. This combination of gifts highlights King Charles’s desire to create a warm and inclusive atmosphere during the holidays.

Celebrating Together at St James’ Palace

To foster camaraderie among his staff, the Royal Household often gathers for a festive celebration at St James’ Palace. This event includes personnel from various royal residences, including King Charles’s Highgrove estate. Former royal gardener Jack Stooks, who previously worked at Highgrove, shared insights into the King’s holiday practices. Stooks noted that, in addition to the Christmas pudding, staff members received hand-signed Christmas cards from both King Charles and Queen Camilla.

“For the first few years that I worked at Highgrove, we also got a Christmas pudding from the King,” Stooks recalled. “When the King got around to doing his Christmas cards, we all got a hand-signed Christmas card as well from himself and Camilla.”

This year, King Charles and Queen Camilla celebrated Christmas at Sandringham, surrounded by family, including the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children. The emphasis on personal touches in gift-giving reflects the King’s commitment to maintaining a strong bond with his staff and ensuring they feel valued during the holiday season.

King Charles’s approach to Christmas gifts not only highlights his generosity but also represents a shift in royal traditions, focusing on meaningful connections with those who support the monarchy throughout the year. As he continues to carve his own path as king, his holiday practices serve as a reminder of the importance of gratitude and community within the royal family.
