Vujović Criticizes Vučić’s Leadership and Past Allegiances
Ivan Vujović, the president of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and a prominent figure in the European Union movement, has publicly criticized Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić. In a statement posted on social media on October 29, 2025, Vujović took issue with comments made by Vučić, asserting that the president’s rhetoric reflects a deeper issue within his leadership approach.
Vujović’s remarks came in response to Vučić’s claim that some individuals harbor animosity toward the Serbian people and the nation due to opposition to his policies. Vujović dismissed this assertion, stating, “That shallow narrative cannot resonate anywhere, not even in Čačak.” He emphasized that the Serbian people are a friendly nation and that Serbia itself is a welcoming country.
The SDP leader expressed his admiration for the younger generation in Serbia, who are actively resisting what he described as Vučić’s dictatorship. He stated, “I deeply appreciate what today’s Serbian youth are doing in opposition to his dictatorship, while I despise every form of dictatorship.” Vujović’s comments reflect a growing discontent within segments of the Serbian population regarding Vučić’s governance and political strategies.
Moreover, Vujović pointed out Vučić’s historical ties to former Montenegrin President Milo Đukanović, suggesting that many are aware of Vučić’s past allegiance. “Even the sparrows know that he has long been a subordinate to Milo Đukanović,” Vujović remarked. He speculated that Vučić may still yearn for those times, indicating a sense of sympathy for the president’s past.
The exchange between Vujović and Vučić illustrates the increasing polarization in Serbian politics, as various leaders and parties navigate the complex landscape of the country’s governance. As the political climate continues to evolve, Vujović’s comments may resonate with those advocating for change and reform within Serbia’s political framework.
This discussion reflects broader themes of leadership accountability and the role of historical alliances in shaping current political narratives. Vujović’s stance captures a critical moment in Serbian politics, as citizens and leaders alike grapple with the implications of governance and national identity.
