Bihar Assembly Election 2025: Voting Dates and ID Requirements Announced

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has set the dates for the upcoming Bihar Assembly Election 2025, with voting scheduled for two phases on November 6 and November 11. The results are expected to be announced on November 14, coinciding with bypoll outcomes in eight Assembly constituencies across seven states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Telangana, Punjab, Mizoram, and Odisha.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar confirmed that elections will take place for all 243 Assembly seats in Bihar, as the current House’s term concludes on November 22, 2025. Among these seats, 38 are reserved for Scheduled Castes, while two are designated for Scheduled Tribes.

In a significant announcement, the ECI clarified that citizens without a Voter ID card can still participate in the election. Voters may present one of 12 alternate photo identity documents recognized by the commission. These documents include a passport, driving license, PAN card, Aadhar card, bank or post office passbook containing a photograph, MNREGA job card, pension documents with a photo, and official ID cards issued to government employees, Members of Parliament, Members of Legislative Assemblies, or Members of Legislative Councils.

It is important to note that while these alternative forms of identification are acceptable, photo voter slips will not be recognized as valid identification on their own. This provision aims to enhance voter access and participation in the electoral process, ensuring that citizens can exercise their democratic rights even if they do not possess a traditional Voter ID.

As the election date approaches, the ECI is expected to roll out further details regarding the voting process and other logistics, emphasizing the importance of encouraging voter turnout in this crucial electoral exercise.
