Josh The Boss Aims for Back-to-Back Wins at Silver Trophy
On Saturday, racing enthusiasts can look forward to an exciting day featuring events from Chepstow, Hexham, and Wolverhampton, all broadcast live on Sky Sports Racing. The highlight will be the Wasdell Group Silver Trophy Handicap Hurdle at Chepstow, where Josh The Boss aims to secure a second consecutive victory.
Josh The Boss Returns to Chepstow
Last year’s champion, Josh The Boss, faces a competitive field of 18 contenders, including French Ship, in the feature race scheduled for 15:20. After a decisive win in this event last year, Josh The Boss has struggled to maintain his form in subsequent races. He returns this year at only 3 pounds above his previous winning weight, and under jockey Jamie Neild, he is expected to make a strong bid for victory once again.
French Ship emerged as a potential threat last season, having secured a win over the same distance at Chepstow. Now a five-year-old, he will race off a mark of 128, making him a strong contender in the eyes of many supporters. Not to be overlooked, Paul Nicholls trains Knappers Hill, who won this race in 2022 and is returning after a 700-day absence since his win at the Rising Stars event in Wincanton.
Challengers in Other Races
The DragonBet / Native River Handicap Chase at 14:45 promises to be equally thrilling, featuring Destroytheevidence and Hoe Joly Smoke as the main competitors. Destroytheevidence previously defeated Haiti Couleurs in this event last year and now races 5 pounds higher, making him a formidable opponent under jockey Tom Bellamy. Hoe Joly Smoke, with a mixed record over fences, will look to bounce back after a disappointing performance at the bet365 Gold Cup in April.
Another notable entry is Pull Again Green, trained by Fergal O’Brien, who has shown improvement with two wins over the summer. Last year’s winner, Neon Moon, also remains a contender worth noting.
At Hexham, the Empower Her Stakes Handicap Hurdle at 16:20 features a competitive matchup between Pinot Rouge and Roger Pol. Trained by Susan Corbett, Pinot Rouge recently dominated a handicap at the same course and distance and will be hoping for rain to enhance her chances against tougher competition. Meanwhile, Roger Pol is on a winning streak after easily claiming victory at Uttoxeter earlier this month, making him a significant threat in this race.
Other races to keep an eye on include the 13:35 event at Chepstow, where Ammes seeks a second win under penalty, and the 14:10 race featuring The Kemble Brewery and My Friend Sean.
As the day unfolds, racing fans can also look forward to events at Chantilly and Wolverhampton. Notable highlights include a Group Two race at 12:40 in Chantilly featuring jockey Hollie Doyle on Tadej, and a Group One contest at 05:15 in Caulfield, showcasing Treasurethe Moment and Buckaroo.
With a packed schedule and a diverse set of races, Saturday promises high-stakes competition and thrilling moments for horse racing fans across the globe.
