Primorac Triumphs Over Jug in Thrilling Euro Cup Clash
Primorac secured a hard-fought victory against Jug in the first match of the Euro Cup round of 16, demonstrating remarkable team spirit and resilience. The match, held in Podgorica, saw Primorac come back from an early deficit, ultimately winning by a single goal, which could prove pivotal in their pursuit of advancement.
The team from Kotor managed to overturn a troubling 0:4 scoreline with just over two minutes remaining in the first quarter. Their determination shone through as they fought back to take a 7:6 lead at the start of the third quarter. The players exhibited exceptional character, managing to reclaim the lead after falling behind again, despite missing a chance to extend their advantage to three goals with a score of 10:8.
After the match, Stefan Vidović, a key player and captain of Primorac, reflected on the challenging circumstances surrounding their preparation. “We received notice at noon that we would be playing, traveled to Podgorica at 15:30, and started the match at 19:00. It was a unique situation, and Jug initially adapted better,” he explained. Despite the rocky start, Vidović remained confident in the team’s ability to turn the game around, which they ultimately did.
Vidović highlighted the importance of their victory, stating, “This win is crucial due to the competition format. More importantly, we demonstrated resilience by bouncing back from a deficit against a formidable opponent.” He noted the team’s strength in regrouping after Jug briefly regained the lead, which speaks volumes about their quality and determination.
Looking ahead, Primorac faces another challenge on March 10, 2024, when they will compete against Jadran in a vital Premier League match. Both teams are in contention for the finals, currently sitting on 25 points each, just ahead of Novi Beograd and Šabac. Vidović acknowledged the tough schedule leading up to the end of the first half of the season, noting the intensity of consecutive important matches.
“This next match carries significant uncertainty, as it could determine our placement in the finals. Jadran is a strong team, and I expect an exciting game. Montenegro should be proud to host such a derby; it is special,” he said, expressing his hope that their ambitions for the finals, which have been their goal from the beginning, will be realized.
In a personal note, Vidović shared his experience after missing the first half of the season due to family commitments. He played in Italy during the latter part and has yet to receive a call-up from national team coach Dejan Savić. “I understand the situation and wish the national team all the best. I have always been motivated to represent my country and remain ready to contribute if called upon,” he remarked, reflecting on the ups and downs of his career.
Overall, the match against Jug not only marked a significant victory for Primorac but also underscored the team’s ability to perform under pressure. As they prepare for their upcoming matches, the players remain focused on their goals and committed to their journey in the Euro Cup.
