Sesko Expects Strong Finish for United Despite Managerial Uncertainty
Despite a challenging start to 2026, Benjamin Sesko remains optimistic about the future of Manchester United. The club is currently facing a managerial crisis following the departure of Ruben Amorim, whose 14-month tenure ended with a series of disappointing results, including a 1-1 draw against rivals Leeds on January 7, 2026. This match was preceded by an equally frustrating home draw with bottom-placed Wolves in December 2025.
With the team now under the interim management of Darren Fletcher, who took charge for the recent match against promoted opposition, United finds itself seventh in the league standings, just outside the Champions League qualification spots. Sesko, who scored a stunning brace at Turf Moor, believes the squad can turn their fortunes around as they push through a difficult season.
Resilience and Team Spirit in Focus
After his impressive performance, Sesko commented on the team’s resilience and togetherness, stating, “Definitely. I think in general we’re a really great group. We’re doing everything to try to prove ourselves every single time.” He emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum, saying, “We just have to keep going, keep pushing, because I think we’re great and, yeah, I believe that great things are coming.”
Fletcher will continue as caretaker manager for the upcoming FA Cup tie against Brighton, while discussions take place with potential candidates such as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick. Another name in consideration for the interim role is Ruud van Nistelrooy, who briefly managed the team between Erik ten Hag and Amorim.
Looking Ahead: Goals and Expectations
As United navigates this transitional period, having a confident striker like Sesko is crucial. The 22-year-old, who made a high-profile move to the club, is starting to find his form. “It feels great because we created great chances, especially with those two goals,” he expressed after the match. “Great movements, great ball. With this kind of situation, we are showing what team we are, what we are capable of and, yeah, it’s great for the future, obviously.”
Despite his positive outlook, Sesko acknowledges the pressing need for victories. “It feels obviously disappointing because I think we were fighting, we were giving our best, we were creating a lot of chances,” he told MUTV. He noted that while the team managed to score, they also conceded two goals, leading to yet another draw. “We still get a draw, which is important, but now it’s just up to us to try to focus on the details and try to win the next game,” he added.
As Manchester United prepares for its upcoming matches, including the FA Cup clash, the team and its fans await the resolution of the managerial situation, hoping for a turnaround that will propel them back into contention for top honors.
