UCLA achieved a commanding victory over Iowa, winning the Big Ten tournament title with a score of 96-45. The game took place on March 10, 2024, in Indianapolis, marking the Bruins’ second consecutive championship in the tournament. This triumph also represents a historic moment for UCLA, as it is the first time they have secured both the regular-season and league tournament titles in the same season.

The Bruins showcased their dominance throughout the game, with Gianna Kneepkens leading the charge, scoring 19 points. Kiki Rice contributed significantly with 15 points and eight assists and was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. This victory extended UCLA’s winning streak to an impressive 25 games, setting a new school record, while their Big Ten win streak reached 24, dating back to last season’s tournament.

The championship game was notable for its lopsided score, surpassing the previous record for the largest margin in tournament history. This victory eclipsed Iowa’s 33-point win over Ohio State in 2023. Five players from UCLA scored in double figures, including Sienna Betts, who matched her season high with 14 points. Despite their efforts, Iowa struggled during the match, with Ava Heiden being the standout performer for the Hawkeyes, scoring 15 points. Hannah Stuelke, an all-conference forward, faced difficulties throughout the game, playing through a right elbow injury and illness. Stuelke recorded no points, shooting 0-for-4, and managed only three rebounds, resulting in the end of Iowa’s eight-game winning streak.

The game began with a brief lead for Iowa after Taylor Stremlow opened with a 3-pointer. However, UCLA quickly responded with 13 consecutive points, taking control of the game. By the end of the first quarter, the Bruins held a commanding lead of 22-5 and widened the margin to 25 points in the second quarter. Iowa managed to reduce the deficit to 42-20 by halftime, but the second half saw UCLA maintain their offensive momentum.

UCLA’s performance was marked by exceptional teamwork, as they recorded 34 assists on 40 baskets. Their two-year title reign follows Iowa’s three consecutive championships and Maryland’s two straight victories. Recently, UCLA also made history as the first Big Ten team to complete a perfect conference season since Maryland achieved the feat during the 2014-15 season, when they also won the tournament.
