Eventually, they succeeded in having the plaque seized from a scrapyard, recognizing **Network Rail** as its rightful owner.

Despite the initial enthusiasm, the journey to reinstall the plaque has been fraught with complications. Thorley recalled a conversation with **Sir Peter Hendy**, chairman of Network Rail, who expressed concerns about the potential for negative publicity during a ceremony, especially if there were delays affecting train services. In recent developments, **Margaret Edge**, station delivery manager at Manchester Piccadilly, confirmed that the plaque would be placed in a prominent position by the end of **October 2023**. The frame and base for the sign are currently being constructed in **Derby**, with trial assemblies planned to ensure proper installation. Edge stated, “We know it’s been a long time coming, but we’re pleased to say the lost Manchester and Birmingham railway plaque will be returning to its rightful home in the station this autumn.”
