Dončić Stars Again, But Lakers Fall to Kings; Harden Surpasses O’Neal
The Los Angeles Lakers suffered their third consecutive defeat, falling to the Sacramento Kings 124-112 on January 13, 2026. Despite a stellar performance from Luka Dončić, who scored 42 points, the Lakers are struggling, now holding a record of 23-14. The Kings celebrated their tenth victory of the season, marking their second consecutive win following a seven-game losing streak. This game also marked the Kings’ first home win against the Lakers since March 13, 2024.
Dončić’s impressive stats included seven rebounds and eight assists, highlighting his capability as a playmaker. LeBron James contributed 22 points, but the Lakers’ overall performance fell short. In contrast, the Kings showcased a strong offensive effort, led by DeMar DeRozan with 32 points and Malik Monk, who added 26 points and eight assists despite missing all five of his three-point attempts. Deandre Ayton also reached a milestone, scoring 13 points to surpass 7,000 points in his NBA career.
While the Lakers struggled, their city rivals, the Los Angeles Clippers, secured a victory against the Charlotte Hornets with a score of 117-109. The Clippers were propelled by Kawhi Leonard, who scored 35 points, and James Harden, who added 32 points, ten assists, and contributed four rebounds and steals. This performance allowed Harden to move up to ninth place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list, surpassing Shaquille O’Neal. With a career total of 28,598 points, Harden achieved this milestone in his 1,187th regular-season game.
Charlotte’s standout player, LaMelo Ball, scored 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds, but the Hornets remain at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with a record of 14-26. The Clippers currently sit eleventh in the Western Conference with 16 wins and 23 losses.
In other notable games, the Dallas Mavericks defeated the Brooklyn Nets 113-105, improving their record to 15-25. Cooper Flagg led the Mavericks with 27 points, five rebounds, and five assists, while Michael Porter Jr. stood out for Brooklyn with 28 points, nine rebounds, and three assists, leaving the Nets at 11-26.
The Philadelphia 76ers showcased dominance against the Toronto Raptors, winning 115-102. The 76ers built a substantial lead in the first half, going ahead by 29 points at one stage. Tyrus Maxey led the team with 33 points, and Joel Embiid added 27 points along with eight rebounds and four assists. For Toronto, Brandon Ingram was the top performer with 17 points, ten rebounds, and seven assists.
The Indiana Pacers edged out the Boston Celtics 98-96, marking their third consecutive win. This victory improved the Pacers’ record to 9-31, while the Celtics fell to 24-15, complicating their playoff aspirations. Pascal Siakam led Indiana with 21 points, eight rebounds, and six assists, while Peyton Pritchard was the standout for Boston with 23 points and eight assists.
Finally, the Utah Jazz secured an impressive 123-112 victory against the Cleveland Cavaliers, raising their record to 14-25. Keyonte George was instrumental in the win, scoring 32 points, along with nine assists and five rebounds. The Cavaliers, meanwhile, fell to 22-19, struggling to maintain their momentum.
As the season progresses, teams continue to vie for playoff positions, and individual performances are shaping the narrative of the 2025-2026 NBA season. The next games promise to bring more excitement and potential shifts in standings as franchises aim for success.
