BAE Systems Secures $500 Million Contract for Artillery Vehicles
BAE Systems has been awarded a contract valued at over $500 million to manufacture additional M109A7 Paladin self-propelled howitzers and M992A3 ammunition carriers for the U.S. Army. This contract, finalized in December 2025, aims to enhance the operational capabilities of the Army’s Armored Brigade Combat Teams by increasing access to mobile artillery systems that can provide indirect fire support in contemporary combat scenarios.
Enhancing Modern Combat Capabilities
According to BAE Systems, the M109A7 Paladin is engineered to deliver a significant operational advantage on the modern battlefield. Dan Furber, program director for Artillery and Combat Support at BAE Systems’ Combat Mission Systems division, emphasized the vehicle’s proven performance, stating, “Its value on the field is demonstrated, and we’re proud to support the U.S. Army and its allies in leveraging this critical capability.”
The M109A7 features a modern digital architecture along with advanced fire control systems, which are designed to enhance lethality, survivability, and responsiveness. BAE Systems noted that the Paladin’s adaptable chassis and upgraded systems will allow for future enhancements while ensuring mobility and reliability under demanding operational conditions.
Production Facilities and Impact
Production of the M109A7 is set to take place across multiple facilities located in York, Pennsylvania, Elgin, Oklahoma, and Anniston, Alabama. This contract not only contributes to the U.S. Army’s artillery capabilities but also supports local economies through job creation and sustained manufacturing activity.
BAE Systems’ commitment to producing high-quality military equipment reflects the growing demand for advanced artillery systems that can meet the challenges of modern warfare. As global military dynamics evolve, the M109A7 Paladin is positioned to play a crucial role in enhancing the effectiveness of U.S. Army operations and its partnerships with allied forces.
