British Mercenary Receives Russian Citizenship for Loyalty in Ukraine

A British man, Ben Stimson, has been awarded Russian citizenship after reportedly fighting for Russia in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The 49-year-old from Oldham is currently involved in training recruits in the Donbas region, having returned to Ukraine after facing legal issues in the United Kingdom.

Maria Butina, a member of the pro-Putin political party United Russia, announced her intervention to facilitate Stimson’s acquisition of a Russian passport. She stated, “Ben has already proven his love and loyalty to Russia, his empathy for the residents of the new territories.” This endorsement indicates a significant level of support from the Russian government for Stimson’s efforts.

Butina, who has a controversial history including a conviction in the United States for espionage, emphasized the importance of Stimson’s loyalty in her remarks. Kemp has argued that Stimson and another British fighter, Aiden Minnis, should be arrested upon returning to the UK for their actions. Minnis, who has been reported missing, was also granted Russian citizenship prior to his disappearance.

In a recent social media post, Stimson reassured supporters that Minnis is “alive and well,” countering earlier concerns about his safety. He had expressed worries over Minnis’s well-being after he had not been seen for a week, indicating a close bond between the two fighters.
