Tributes Flow for Glenavy Crash Victims Mikey Brown and Layla Douglas
A tragic car crash in Glenavy, Co Antrim, claimed the lives of two young adults, identified as Mikey Brown and Layla Douglas, both in their 20s. The accident occurred on Lurgan Road at approximately 18:25 on November 22, involving a grey Skoda Fabia and a grey Cupra Formentor. Emergency services, including officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), responded to the scene where the occupants of the Cupra were pronounced dead.
The driver of the Skoda was transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries. The news of the incident has reverberated throughout the community, prompting an outpouring of grief and condolences on social media.

The local boxing club, Townland Boxing Club, expressed their sorrow over the loss of Mikey Brown, recalling his warm spirit and connection to the club. They stated, “We are truly devastated to hear of the tragic death of young Mikey Brown. Such a lovely kid, even after all this time, he would stop and have a conversation with you.” The club extended their condolences to Mikey’s family, highlighting the profound impact of his loss.
Another community member shared heartfelt sentiments, saying, “God rest these poor young people Mikey Brown and Layla who have sadly passed away in a car crash. Our deepest condolences to all their family, friends, and relatives at this devastating time.” The message encapsulated the collective heartache felt as the community grappled with the untimely deaths.
Calls for prayers and support for the grieving families have emerged, with one individual stating, “Rip angel. My heart bleeds for the broken-hearted families left behind. Please everyone keep the broken-hearted in your prayers.”

Local politician John Blair, representing the Alliance Party for South Antrim, conveyed his condolences and emphasized the community’s shock. In an interview, he remarked, “This really is the saddest of news coming from Glenavy today. My thoughts are with the families and friends of the young people who have been casualties of this tragic road traffic accident.” He noted the prevailing sentiment of despair regarding road safety in rural areas.
Fellow politician Gary McCleave, representing Sinn Féin, also expressed his sympathies, stating, “This is heartbreaking news for the loved ones of both people who lost their lives.” He urged anyone with information regarding the collision to contact the PSNI.
