Pokémon Legends Z-A Sales Exceed 1 Million on Switch 2

Recent data from Famitsu reveals significant sales milestones for Nintendo, with both hardware and software performing exceptionally well in Japan. The latest figures show that Pokémon Legends: Z-A for the Nintendo Switch 2 has surpassed 1 million units sold, reaching a total of 1,004,154 copies. This achievement coincides with the enduring popularity of Mario Kart World, which continues to lead the charts with an additional 94,645 units sold, bringing its lifetime sales to 2,668,381.

The original Switch remains a strong contender, having sold 1,529,823 units of the Pokémon Legends game. Although the Switch 2 is gaining traction, the established user base of the original console indicates that Pokémon titles on the new system may initially struggle to match the sales figures of their predecessors.

Hardware Performance in Japan

During the last week of 2026, the Switch 2 demonstrated impressive hardware sales, with 200,257 units sold. The original Switch accounted for 32,775 units across its various models, while the PlayStation 5 sold 19,232 units. Notably, the PlayStation 4 managed to find its way into the hands of just 15 buyers during this period.

The increasing sales of the new console are expected to continue as more players upgrade from the original Switch. However, the substantial install base of the original system suggests that Pokémon titles will continue to see significant sales from both platforms for the foreseeable future.
