Serbian National Arrested in Herceg Novi Under International Warrant

Authorities in Montenegro arrested a Serbian national, identified as S.O., aged 61, in Herceg Novi on October 3, 2023. His arrest follows an international warrant issued by NCB Interpol Belgrade. The individual was apprehended during enhanced border control measures aimed at monitoring the movement and residence of foreigners.

The Border Police Station in Herceg Novi reported that officers stopped S.O. and requested his identification. Upon examination, officers suspected that the identification card he presented was counterfeit. A subsequent investigation, conducted in collaboration with agents from Frontex, confirmed the suspicion that the document was indeed forged.

Legal Proceedings and Charges

The case has been forwarded to the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Herceg Novi, where the prosecutor has indicated that S.O.’s actions involve elements of the criminal offense of document forgery. In addition to the forgery charges, further checks revealed that the international warrant for S.O. was still active, as issued by NCB Interpol Belgrade. This warrant pertains to S.O.’s alleged involvement in ongoing criminal proceedings in Serbia.

Following the legal protocol, S.O. will be presented to the prosecutor within the legally mandated timeframe regarding the forgery charges. After this initial appearance, he is expected to appear before the relevant investigating judge in relation to the international warrant.
