Budva Volleyball Team Faces Setback in MEVZA League Match
The Budva volleyball team suffered their first defeat in the MEVZA league, losing in straight sets to the unbeaten team, Zadruga, in a match held in Blajburg, Austria. The game lasted for 75 minutes, and despite a competitive start, Budva was unable to maintain their momentum, ultimately falling short with scores of 9-25, 6-25, and 19-25.
During the first set, Budva initially kept pace with Zadruga, trailing only 7-9 before the home team surged ahead. By the midway point, Zadruga led 17-10, effectively sealing the set. The second set mirrored the first; Budva managed to stay close at 8-6, but Zadruga quickly established a commanding lead, finishing with a decisive 2-0 advantage.
In the third set, Budva made a brief attempt at a comeback, equalizing at 19-19. However, Zadruga regained control and secured their position as the only team with a perfect record in the league.
Miljan Bošković, the head coach of Budva, expressed disappointment in the team’s performance. “After the match against Zadruga, it is clear that we have significantly complicated our path to the playoffs. We made too many errors and failed to impose our rhythm or take advantage of our opportunities, which our opponent capitalized on,” he stated.
As of now, Budva holds a mixed record of two wins and two losses after four matches. They managed to secure victories against Maribor (3-2) and Hungary’s MAV Elore (3-1), but faced setbacks against Zadruga and Budućnost, losing 3-1 to the latter.
The team will conclude its participation in the league phase of the MEVZA league at a tournament in Zagreb in mid-January, where they will face both Mladost and Murse. This tournament will be crucial in determining whether the Montenegrin champions can secure a spot in the final four.
Bošković remains optimistic about the future. “The season is not over yet, and we must raise our level of play and demonstrate the true character of our team. We are facing a tough challenge in Zagreb with two very demanding matches ahead. We will continue to work hard and prepare seriously to return to the right path and secure our place in the playoffs,” he concluded.
