Art Exhibition “Colors of Recovery” Showcases Patient Creativity
An art exhibition titled “Colors of Recovery” opened last night at the Art Gallery in Podgorica, providing a unique insight into the experiences of patients from the Day Hospital of the Psychiatry Clinic at the Clinical Center of Montenegro. The artworks, created through occupational and creative therapy, not only showcase artistic forms but also tell intimate stories of personal recovery, the power of creativity, and the importance of mental health care.
Empathy Through Art
Visitors to the exhibition will find a vibrant collection of pieces that use a variety of colors, textures, and strokes to foster understanding and empathy towards the inner worlds of their creators. Dr. Aleksandar Popović, the Director of the Psychiatry Clinic at the Clinical Center, emphasized the vital role of creativity in the healing process, stating that it serves as a powerful therapeutic tool. He remarked, “Recovery is not just about diagnosis and therapy; it also involves the quality of relationships and the dedication of staff to patients.”
Dr. Aleksandar Radović, Director of the Clinical Center of Montenegro, noted that the Day Hospital recently commenced operations, highlighting the significance of modern approaches in mental health treatment. He stated, “This is just one example of occupational therapy and how our society should evolve into a modern and responsible community. We need to understand that everyone faces challenges, and while some manage on their own, others require assistance. In such situations, we should not feel ashamed to seek help.”
Recovery in Diverse Shades
Dr. Tea Dakić, Head of the Day Hospital, expressed that the title of the exhibition, “Colors of Recovery”, aptly reflects the multifaceted nature of recovery. “Recovery is not one-dimensional or monochromatic; it unfolds in various shades, as evidenced by these works,” she explained. “It is not solely about clinics, outpatient care, or medication, but also about a deep connection with oneself and others. The magic of recovery occurs in these spaces, demonstrating how resilient and vital human potential and creativity can be for personal and societal growth.”
The exhibition also carries a humanitarian aspect, with all proceeds from the sale of artworks directed towards acquiring materials for therapeutic activities and further support for patients. The organizing bodies include the Clinical Center of Montenegro – Psychiatry Clinic and the Day Hospital, alongside the Cultural Secretariat and the Public Institution Museums and Galleries of Podgorica.
The exhibition will remain open for public viewing today from 17:00 to 21:00, inviting everyone to engage with the transformative power of art in the healing journey.
