Man Dies After Crash with Police Van During Stop Attempt
A man has died following a collision with a police van during an attempted police stop in Liverpool. The incident occurred on February 13, 2024, at approximately 15:15 on Back Falkner Street South. According to a statement from Merseyside Police, the victim, a 23-year-old man, fell off his electrically assisted bicycle before the crash.
Shortly after the incident, police confirmed that the man had been taken to hospital but later announced his death on February 14, 2024. A significant police presence remained at the scene, with a cordon established and forensic teams investigating.
Merseyside Police provided details about the circumstances leading to the collision. Officers were engaged in a proactive operation and attempted to stop the man, who subsequently lost control of his bicycle. In their communication, a representative from Merseyside Police stated: “We can confirm that a man involved in an incident on Back Falkner Street South in Liverpool yesterday, Friday 13 February, has sadly died.” They added that first aid and CPR were administered at the scene by officers before an ambulance arrived at 15:23 to transport him to the hospital, where he died shortly thereafter.
The police emphasized the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the event, noting that a post-mortem examination would be conducted to ascertain the cause of death. The incident significantly affected local traffic, leading Arriva North West to divert bus services 201 and 699 in the area. The company informed customers via social media: “Due to a police incident, services have been diverted via Crown Street and Oxford Street in both directions. Please allow extra time for your journey.”
