Monteput Reports Record Traffic Volume in Montenegro for 2025
The company Monteput has announced record traffic results for 2025, with over 7.3 million vehicles recorded on the “Princeza Ksenija” highway and the Sozina Tunnel. This surge underscores the growing importance of modern road infrastructure for mobility, safety, and economic development in Montenegro.
According to Monteput, the priority section of the “Princeza Ksenija” highway, stretching from Smokovac to Mateševo, saw a total of 3,212,608 vehicles use the route last year. This figure marks the highest annual traffic volume recorded on this critical transportation artery. The majority of the traffic comprised passenger vehicles, with 2.83 million recorded, highlighting the highway’s significance for daily commuting and tourism.
The report also noted a substantial presence of commercial vehicles and public transport, with 176,460 light commercial vehicles, 121,658 medium commercial vehicles, and 67,430 buses and heavy trucks counted. These statistics reflect a diverse usage of the highway, catering not only to personal travel but also to commercial activities.
Heavy Traffic Continues Through Sozina Tunnel
The Sozina Tunnel maintained its reputation as one of the busiest transport routes in the country in 2025. A total of 4,152,305 vehicles passed through the tunnel, with passenger vehicles leading the numbers at 3.64 million entries. The data also indicated significant traffic from commercial vehicles, with 203,741 light commercial vehicles, 137,680 medium commercial vehicles, and 136,055 buses and heavy trucks recorded.
These figures highlight the critical role that both the “Princeza Ksenija” highway and the Sozina Tunnel play in enhancing connectivity within Montenegro. As tourism and trade continue to flourish, the infrastructure’s capacity to support increased traffic volumes will be essential for the country’s ongoing economic growth.
Monteput’s record traffic results in 2025 not only reflect the current state of road usage but also signal the potential for further investment and development in Montenegro’s transportation infrastructure. As more vehicles utilize these routes, the focus will likely shift to maintaining safety and efficiency in a rapidly evolving mobility landscape.
